“This is only the second tent I’ve ever owned. The first one was a real crappy sub $20 from Sports Authority. That $20 one worked fine for that one night I used it for but I vowed spend a little more next time and hope for much better quality. The 2-person $20 leaked a bit, was terribly cramped and was awfully humid inside. All of those problems went away with this Coleman. Here are just a few reasons why I’m very happy with my purchase:

First, the price was pretty reasonable. If you find another brand with a similar design for a little less, that’s fine and all but I was happy to pay what I paid and get a Coleman – even someone that has never been camping before knows Coleman is pretty trusted when it comes to things like tents, coolers and anything you use outdoors.

Second, I thought most of the other reviews here were pretty favorable. I’m just a guy that wants to head to a campsite 2-3 times a year and spend a night or two with my girlfriend. There was another review here about how it fit a guy and his fiancée with a queen size air mattress very well. That review pretty much sold me and it was spot on. I also learned that a queen size air mattress is actually a little smaller than a regular size full size you’d have in your home. That’s still fine for two people but just don’t think you’re going to fit a giant mattress in there. The “queen” Coleman air mattress I purchased fit very well with ample room to spare.

Third, I like the colors of this tent – definitely not a great reason to base your choice of shelter but I still like the way it looks.

Fourth, It poured rain as we slept the first night. It was a pretty bad thunderstorm and it came down hard. There were not any leaks I could find. It also probably helped that this was a brand new tent, I’m pretty sure all tents will spring leaks as they get older and require seam sealer.

Fifth, Ease of use – this thing goes up and comes down pretty easily. A child can figure this thing out and it fits in a bag that’s pretty small and easy to manage.

So if you’re like me and just need a nice little tent for the occasional camping trip, this is a great choice. You can see how it looks in my pics compared to a giant 8 person tent too.”

“We are a Boy Scout Troop that does a lot of backpacking and camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains of SC and NC. We have some older Kelty tents that have held up great through all of the abuse a group of teenage boys can put out, so we’re very pleased with the brand. The features of the Gunnison were the best in the price range. We’ve had them out a couple of times and are happy with the room, weight and design of the tents. Especially the 2 door design and the large vestibules. We’re expecting years of service from them. Will definitely buy again as we need more tents.”

“I got my gunnison a few weeks ago and have mixed emotions. I ended up getting the 3.1 for a little extra room and paid $199 on amazon with free shipping. As always with kelty, quality materials. However, the fastening mechanisms are all plastic and are specialty parts. I don’t know how a plastic bottle can survive 1000 years in a landfill but a plastic clip cannot survive more then a few years on a compression sac. New out of the box all the fasteners are great, the ends of the all aluminum poles have a ball that locks into the clip on the tent making set up much easier. But some day those things will break, and I won’t be able to stop at the local store and buy a new one (I have built/repaired LOTS of equipment from Jo Ann Fabrics). My other problem is the floor seems very thin and my other kelty footprints are the same material. I always worry about a puncture, so with this tent I use a $4.99 blue tarp (almost big enough) for a little bit of meat underneath. Hopefully my conserns are all for not and my tent will give me many years of pleasure. Thats really my only negative, the positives are many. Our first night it poured for about four hours and not a drop of water in our tent. The double door/vestibules are great, one side to enter and the other just big enough for two packs. The tent is relatively light, comes with aluminum poles, easy set up, plenty of room, looks good, everything I need at a reasonable price. I’m sure there are better tents, but this one is a great value.”

“This is another great product from Marmot. This is a 3 person, but is really better for a roomy 2 person or 2 person and a child, etc. Great ventilation, seam sealed, quick snapping pole clips make setting up and breaking down a snap. This also comes with a gear loft and a footprint. You can’t find a better tent in this price range. I see that it is not available on here right now but you can find it through their website or at any major retailer. I found a great price on mine, below 200. There really are too many great things to list about this tent, so check it out at Marmots website, they have a video of it as well.”

“This has to be my favorite Eureka 4-season tent. If I only had one tent for everything (yeah, right!), this would be the one. The geodesic dome shape (4 aircraft aluminum poles) is incredibly strong…maybe the strongest of all tent designs. Ripstop fabric with extra waterproof coating will stop rain, snow and ice and the unique guy-line arrangement gives me some flexibilty when anchoring this tent. Like my Alpenlite 2XT, this tent comes with two vestibules and the rear vesti can be accessed from inside the tent via a second/back door. I wasn’t sure about all the vents at first but I’m finding that they make the tent a good choice for warmer weather, too! I’ve posted a bunch of pictures for this tent so take a look. If there is a down side to this tent…it’s a bit heavy for a backpack. The fix for this?…I fall back on Boy Scout training and divide the components. I’ll carry the tent body and my friend Sharon Sharalike gets the rainfly, poles and stakes. An outstanding tent!!!”

“My wife and I have used this tent in cold winter with lots of snow and hot summer nights with lots of rain.The K2-XT has lots of venting for summer temps and will close up tightly if sub zero breezes need to be totally kept out for some reason..poor sleeping bag?The brilliant fly colour makes this outstanding tent stand out.. But for stealth camping it would be nice if manufacturers offered a choice of fly colours.The materials used by Eureka on the K2-XT are tough and look and feel top knotch.We have slept in winds over 40 mph when gusts might frighten some sane folks.We used oversized stakes.The many guyouts did their job and there was no damage to poles or tent body or fly materials.No footprint was available so I made one to fit from plastic tarp material. Happy camping!”

“Easy set up and great performance. We stayed nice and warm in this tent. I thought it would be an issue because of all of the mesh fabric. We always hated being showered in dew in the morning because of condensation, but this tent is so well ventilated that it doesn’t become an issue. If you have always purchased cheap tents like us in the past, you will love this tent. The floor of this tent is not like others though – it is the same thin material used on the sidewalls – they do this to conserve on weight if you want to go backpacking. You will need a good tarp under it. Eureka tents are finally affordable – you will not be disappointed with this model.”

“This is one of the best tents I have purchased for backpacking. It is very light but strong and sturdy. Myself and my brother are both 6 foot 1 and had plenty of room. Setup and takedown is very easy and a quick process. The 2 doors and vestibules are a great addition to this tent. Dont forget to waterproof and seam seal this tent and also place a tarp underneath it and it will last for a very long time. Eureka has done it again!”

“Pros: Roomy enough for two + gear. Me=6′0″ Her=5′2″ Like other Eureka tents, very intuitive, easy quick set-up. I hook a Coleman Zephyr LED tent fan/light ($20 at Chinamart) on the ceiling loop. This was a godsend on warm nights (see ventilation comment below). Decent price $160. This tent has seen a good dose of rain and it is watertight. I did seal the factory sealed seams with Kenyon Seam Sealer 3. Wind is also not an issue. I have great confidence in the strength of the aluminum frame.

Unzipping the fly is a loooonnnng reach even for me (6′0″). Zipper is at the far corner of the vestibule and dew/rain on the fly will get you wet if not careful. Ventilation is inadequate in hot/muggy weather. In warm weather you may want to leave the fly unzipped on BOTH vestibules. The one vent doesn’t seem to do much.

I considered the Eureka Pinnacle Pass 2A but I wanted the vestibules for more elbow room inside. Given the lack of ventilation with the 3XTA, I would give serious consideration to the 2A again.”
